About CLAT Exam

Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a non-statutory body created under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the convenience of the students seeking admission to various National Law Universities in the country. An entrance test is conducted to provide a list of candidates on the basis of ‘merit-cum-preference’ to each University for admission to their UG/PG programmes, as per the eligibility, reservation and other criteria laid down under the respective statutes of the participating Universities.
The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), is an all India entrance examination, conducted on rotation by 17 National Law Universities (NLUs) for admissions to their Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate degree programmes.

CLAT Eligibility

  • Candidates should have passed Higher Secondary School/Intermediate Examination (10+2) or its equivalent examination with not less than 50% marks in aggregate (45% in case of SC/ST/OBC and persons with Disability).
  • There is no age bar for appearing in CLAT
  • Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination can also appear provisionally. However, they shall have to produce proof of having passed the qualifying examination before or at the time of admission with detailed mark sheet.
  • Candidate with compartment/supplementary in any subject in the qualifying examination will not be eligible for admission.

Syllabus of CLAT Exam

General Knowledge & Current Affairs – This section will include questions from general awareness including static GK. Apart from GK, questions will also cover the recent topics and current affairs from the previous year.
English (with Comprehension) – In this sections candidates will be given questions of English Comprehension. Candidates will also be tested on Grammer, Vocabulary and Fill in the blanks.
Legal Aptitude – This section will test the candidates interest of studying law, legal terms and problem solving abilities. Moreover, there will also be some legal proposition and candidates will be required to assume out of the set of facts given.
Elementary Mathematics (Numerical Ability) – This section will have mathematics from Class 10th and won’t be too difficult.

This will include basic level mathematics including Number System, Percentage, Profit and Loss, Time and Work, Height and Distance, Geometry, Algebra, Trigonometry, etc.
Logical reasoning
This will include questions related to blood relations, analogies, syllogism and some logical sequence
