About NIFT

 Launched in 1986 ,under the Ministry of Textiles, NIFT, the foremost Indian Institute for Fashion Technology, has been declared as an Institute of National Importance like IIT and IIM by the Govt. of India. As per the NIFT Act 2006, the Institute awards its own degrees in the field of fashion education. In 2008, NIFT has opened 4 more centres , i.e., at Kannur-Kerala, Bhopal-M.P., Shillong- Meghalaya and Patna -Bihar and one in Mauritius, bringing the total no. of centres to 13. NIFT plans to open more overseas centres in U.A.E and Malaysia/Singapore in this year. NIFT imparts training in Fashion Design, Management and Technology both at UG and PG levels.

NIFT Admission Process

Written Entrance examination in General Ability (GAT) + Creative Ability (CAT) in February. GAT consists of
1.Quantitative Ability,
2.Communication Ability ,
3.Comprehension Ability and
4.Analytical Reasoning.
CAT consists of
1.Drawing,
2.Design &
3.Colour Excercises
to determine “the candidates’ creativity, colour- Sensitivity, eye for detail and originality.” GAT for Management and Technology aspirants includes VIKALPA i.e case studies, Industry awareness & Business Domain GK. The written test held in April now and is followed by Situation Test / G.D & Interview ( for Mgmt.) in May-June. Forms come out in October. For UG Courses, students in Class XII or + for PG Courses those in B.A III yr or + are eligible and . Forms for the CE NIFT 1-Year Certificatecate Courses are out in June / July and a Common entrance Exam is held in the Ist week of July /Aug.
